My uncle was a jeweler, so I suppose you can say it's in my blood. I simply love being an artist. For me, I love two things, the art of repairing a piece of fine jewelry and the art of designing a custom piece from thin air. With repair, it is important that my work is invisible...
Right there in my hands is a miniature work of art and my job is to fix things in a way that you won't notice that I've been there. It's important to keep the original design in place and restore the piece so it can be worn again for years. With a custom creation it's different. I get to be very visible as an artist. A client comes in with an idea of what they want to see and from nothing, from air, from ideas, I create art. To me this is so personally rewarding. When they smile I know I have done good work. That makes a good day for me.
You will see me at the Campbell store and I'm always at my workbench. I am usually focused and very serious about what I'm working on. What you may not know is that I like to joke around... a lot. And in our shop we know how to enjoy the day; even the very busy ones. It can all be good; it just depends on how you look at it.
Some people say they always see me at the store; that I must never go home. I do go home... and hiking... and dancing. When I'm not at the store I am still working on pieces of art; I create sculptures and refurbish antiques. Can you tell I love what I do? That and a few decades in the jewelry industry make my title of Master Jeweler, well-earned!
Next time you are in the store, give a wave. I'm the fellow behind the glass window.
