What are Numismatic Coins?

One of clients recently asked, "What is a "numismatic" coin?" Great question!

Numismatics is a term used to refer to the collection or study of all forms of currency, money and other methods of payment used in the payment of debts and the exchange of goods and services. It refers to coins, paper, tokens and other objects used as legal tender and includes both the economic and historical study of money. The word numismatic has both Latin and Greek origins and roughly translates to "a coin for use according to law."
